Student Performance Troupe

A successful example of the Infinite Dreams program is the Bethune II student performance troupe.Throughout 25 years of consecutive dance instruction and post residency performances, some Infinite Dreams students return to the program year after year - some for as many as 15 years. As they repeat study and their skills as artists grow, their accomplishments are showcased. New ground is broken as they demonstrate to people who are not familiar or do not interact with special needs populations as to their true capabilities and contributions to our society. Advanced level students from our Lankershim Community Centersite (N. Hollywood, CA)performed to great acclaim at the inaugural Hollywood Hero Award Gala and Tribute sponsored by USA Today and Gannett Newspapers in May 2006 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Established by a seed grant in 2007 from the Boeing Employees Charitable Fund and under guidance from Artistic/Executive Director Zina Bethune and senior Infinite Dreams instructor Heather Lipson-Bell, Bethune II’s free to the public performances have included: Very Special Arts Festival of Los Angeles County, Reagan Presidential Library, Inside/Out Community Arts Center in Venice, CA, Pasadena Armory for the Arts, and the AARP Diversity & Aging in the 21st Century Conference held in Los Angeles.

Bethune II continues to expand with new graduate students, performances, and repertoire. Bethune II is funded by state and local grants, private donations, and parents. Bethune II funding opportunities are available for donors in several categories:

  • Scholarships
  • Performance costs
  • Stipends for student performances

"I have observed a gradual growth in my daughter in the past three years she has attended your program. Your program has been very useful for my daughter. She has more confidence in exchanging conversation with the other students and she is more active in approaching her classmates.”
